What Is the Quickest Way to Get Business Cards_

What Is the Quickest Way to Get Business Cards?

The quickest way to get professional business cards is to use a local same-day print studio and collect them in person. With a print-ready file, you can order in the morning and have finished cards in your hand the same afternoon — no waiting for batches, couriers or delivery slots.

But "quickest" depends on your situation. In this guide we compare every realistic option — same-day local printing, express online printing, office print shops and printing at home — so you can choose the fastest route that still gives you cards you're proud to hand out.

The four ways to get business cards quickly

1. Same-day local printing — fastest

Typical time: a few hours
Best for: urgent meetings, events, launches, last-minute reprints

A local digital print studio prints your job on demand. There's no waiting for enough orders to fill a sheet and no courier, so the only real steps are checking your file, printing and trimming.

At our Finchley studio, order before 2 PM Monday to Friday and your cards are printed the same day, ready to collect. You still get a full choice of stock — both our 400gsm uncoated board and Mayfair Ivory cards are available same day, single or double sided.

Pros: fastest option, heavyweight quality stocks, someone checks your artwork, no delivery risk
Cons: you (or someone) need to collect

2. Express online printing

Typical time: usually one to three working days
Best for: people who can wait a day or two and can't collect

Many national online printers offer an express upgrade. The important detail is that "next-day" often means next-day dispatch, with delivery afterwards, and there's usually a morning cut-off. Orders placed on a Friday afternoon may not arrive until the following week.

Pros: delivered to your door
Cons: express fees, courier delays, missed deliveries, no chance to feel the stock first

3. High-street and office print counters

Typical time: same day to a few days
Best for: very simple jobs

Some copy shops can print basic business cards quickly, but stock options are often limited, and heavyweight card may not be available. It's worth checking what weight of card they use before you order.

4. Printing at home

Typical time: an hour or two, plus cutting
Best for: a handful of temporary cards

Printing at home feels instant, but most home printers can't feed thick card, and perforated sheets leave rough edges. We look at the true costs in is it cheaper to print your own business cards?

What slows business card orders down

In our experience, the printing itself is rarely the hold-up. These are the things that actually cause delays:

Artwork that isn't print-ready. Files without bleed, in RGB, at low resolution, or sent as a Word document or screenshot all need fixing before they can be printed.

Typos spotted too late. A wrong digit in a phone number means reprinting. Proofread before you send.

Unusual sizes or finishes. Custom sizes are possible, but they can add time. Standard 85 × 55mm is always quickest.

Ordering after the cut-off. Anything after 2 PM rolls to the next working day — although if you've just missed it, call us on 020 8343 0099 and we'll see what we can do.

Waiting for a design. Our design service can take up to 24 hours. If you need cards today, using a ready-made template is faster.

How to get your business cards as fast as possible

Follow this checklist and your order can go straight to press:

  1. Set up your file at 85 × 55mm with 3mm bleed on each side.
  2. Keep important text 3–4mm inside the edge so nothing gets trimmed off.
  3. Use CMYK colour and 300dpi images.
  4. Export as a PDF. In Canva, choose PDF Print and tick crop marks and bleed.
  5. Proofread everything — names, numbers, emails and URLs.
  6. Order before 2 PM, Monday to Friday.
  7. Keep your phone nearby in case we need to check anything.

Does fast mean more expensive?

Not necessarily. Our same-day prices start at £37 + VAT for 50 single-sided cards, and 500 single-sided cards cost £62 + VAT — the same price whichever of our two stocks you choose. Because you collect, there's no delivery charge on top.

Quantity Single-sided Double-sided
100£40 + VAT£42 + VAT
300£54 + VAT£59 + VAT
500£62 + VAT£69 + VAT

Which option should you choose?

  • Need them today? Same-day local printing is the only realistic option for quality cards.
  • Need them this week and can't collect? An express online printer may suit you — read our guide to business cards with fast delivery for what to look out for.
  • Need five temporary cards for tonight? Home printing will do in a pinch.
