Comparing business card stocks and prices

What’s the Cheapest Place to Get Business Cards Made?

If you search for cheap business cards, you'll find no shortage of eye-catching prices. But the cheapest headline price isn't always the cheapest order — and it's rarely the best value once you factor in delivery, upgrades, turnaround and the quality of the card you actually receive.

In this guide we'll give you an honest comparison of the main places to get business cards made, show you how to compare prices properly, and explain where we fit in.

Comparing business card stocks and prices

The main places to get business cards made

1. Large online printers

Typically cheapest for: large quantities on standard stock, when you can wait

Big online printers print huge volumes, often combining many customers' jobs on one sheet. That can keep their headline prices low, especially on larger runs.

Watch out for:

  • Delivery charges, which can add noticeably to a cheap order
  • Standard turnaround of several working days, plus delivery
  • Upgrades — heavier card, double-sided printing and finishes often cost extra
  • Automated file checks that may not catch every problem with your artwork
  • Not seeing the stock before you order

2. Local print studios

Typically best for: short runs, urgent jobs, heavyweight stock and advice

A local studio may not always have the lowest headline price, but prices often include things that cost extra elsewhere — faster turnaround, heavier card and a real person checking your file. There's also no delivery charge if you collect.

3. "Free" business card offers

Typically best for: people who aren't fussy about card quality or branding

Free offers can be tempting, but they often come with postage, limited templates, lightweight card or the printer's logo on the back. We break this down in where can I get free business cards?

4. Printing them yourself

Typically best for: a handful of temporary cards

Once you add card sheets, ink, misprints and time, DIY is rarely cheaper — see is it cheaper to print your own business cards?

How to compare business card prices properly

To find the genuinely cheapest option, compare these five things — not just the headline price.

1. The total price, including VAT and delivery

Some printers show prices ex VAT, some inc VAT. Some include delivery, many don't. Always compare the final amount you'll actually pay.

2. The price per card

Divide the total price by the number of cards. This is the fairest way to compare different quantities.

3. The card weight

A lighter card at a lower price isn't a like-for-like comparison with a heavyweight card. Check the gsm (grams per square metre) — the higher the number, the thicker the card.

4. What's included

Is double-sided printing included or extra? Is there a file check? Is faster turnaround an upgrade?

5. The turnaround

If you need cards by a certain date, a cheap printer that can't deliver in time isn't the cheapest option — it's the wrong option.

Are we the cheapest? Honestly, not always

If you want 500 cards on lightweight stock and you're happy to wait several days for delivery, you'll probably find a lower headline price online. We don't offer a cheaper, thinner stock, because we'd rather every card we print feels substantial.

Where we're competitive is value: heavyweight cards, same-day printing and no delivery charges, all included as standard. For many people — especially anyone in or around London who needs cards quickly — that makes us the better choice.

How to get the lowest price wherever you order

  • Order a larger quantity if your details are settled — the price per card falls sharply.
  • Design your own card using a free Canva template to avoid design fees.
  • Supply a print-ready PDF with 3mm bleed so nothing needs fixing.
  • Proofread carefully — reprints are the most expensive mistake.
  • Avoid unnecessary finishes — a quality uncoated card looks premium on its own.
  • Collect in person where possible to avoid delivery costs.

Which quantity gives you the best value?

For most people, 300 to 500 cards hit the sweet spot. Our guide to a good price for 250 business cards explains why 300 often beats 200, and why 500 is only a little more again.

Our two stocks

400gsm uncoated board — thick, rigid and matt, easy to write on.

400gsm Mayfair Ivory — a warm off-white, lightly textured card with a classic feel.
